Search Wasco County Court Records
Wasco County court records are searched through Oregon Judicial Department systems rather than a county-run court database. The free starting point is the OJD Find a Case or Court Record route and the OJD records and calendar search. Those pages connect to the online case search, circuit and tax court calendars, appellate record search, and subscription options. The Wasco County Circuit Court records office remains the local route for copies, public terminal use, and file questions.
The free portal gives limited public case information. It is not the official ORS 7.020 register. For fuller register-of-actions access, nonconfidential case review, or official copy work, use the courthouse terminal, the court clerk counter, a written request to the Trial Court Administrator, or OJCIN Online if a subscription is appropriate.
- Start with the Wasco County Circuit Court page when local hours, phone routing, forms, or copy fees matter.
- Use the free OJD Online Records Search for limited circuit court, tax court, and appellate case details.
- Open Advanced Search Options in Smart Search when the portal offers court and filter choices.
- Check whether the case type may be excluded, such as adoption, juvenile, mental health, sealed, or VAWA-protected records.
- Request official copies from the Circuit Court records office when a portal result is not enough for filing, proof, or review.
OJD Online Records Search is the public portal shown in the research capture.
The portal is useful for a first pass, but Wasco County Court users should treat it as a limited index and confirm official register details with the court.
Wasco County Case Search Fields
The public Smart Search capture did not expose every hidden field because the page uses JavaScript, so the safest description is narrow. The public page confirms a Smart Search box, account links, and an Advanced Search Options control. OJD also states that public search does not require sign-in or registration. No Wasco County page should claim field choices that were not captured.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Options / Format Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smart Search | Text | Unspecified | Search for court records; Advanced Search Options can narrow the search. |
| Register / Sign In | Account links | No for public search | OJD says public search does not require sign-in or registration. |
| Advanced Search Options | Expandable control | Optional | Use it to specify court records and other options when available. |
The OJD records and calendar search page lists the main free search choices.
That state page helps route Wasco County users between case records, calendars, appellate searches, and OJCIN access.
Wasco County Circuit Court Basics
Wasco County Circuit Court is the state trial court for Wasco County. It handles civil, criminal, family, probate, juvenile, traffic violation, small claims, eviction, name and sex change, protective order, and wedding functions listed by the Oregon Judicial Department. The courthouse is in The Dalles, and the Trial Court Administrator is Rian Beach. Appeals from Wasco County Circuit Court generally move to the Oregon Court of Appeals, with the Oregon Supreme Court above that.
The most important routing rule is the split between court and county records. The County Clerk is not part of the Oregon State Circuit Court System. Court case files, divorce files, probate files, juvenile access questions, docket records, and court copy requests go to the Circuit Court records office. Marriage licenses, recorded marriage certificates, land records, liens, domestic partnerships, elections, and Property Value Appeals Board work go to the County Clerk.
| Court or Office | Address | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Wasco County Circuit Court | 511 Washington Street, The Dalles, OR 97058 | Primary trial court and court-record custodian. |
| Wasco County County Clerk | 401 E. 3rd Street, Suite 100, The Dalles, OR 97058 | Marriage licenses, recordings, liens, elections, and PVAB records. |
| Wasco County Sheriff's Office | 511 Washington St., Ste. 101, The Dalles, OR 97058 | Law-enforcement records, civil process, patrol, and records requests. |
| NORCOR Adult Corrections | 201 Webber Street, The Dalles, OR 97058 | Regional adult jail for Wasco, Hood River, Sherman, and Gilliam counties. |
Wasco County Circuit Court publishes the local court contact block, hours, and court links.
The court page is the best local checkpoint before a counter visit, copy request, jury question, or forms search.
Wasco County Record Routing
Many record problems in Wasco County start when the request goes to the wrong office. A divorce decree is a Circuit Court record. A marriage license copy is a County Clerk recording. A sheriff incident report is a sheriff public records request. Custody status is checked through NORCOR, VISOR, or Oregon DOC, depending on whether the person is in local custody, state custody, or under supervision.
| Need | Start Here | Important Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Civil, criminal, probate, divorce, traffic case records | Wasco County Circuit Court and OJD search | Free search is limited and not the official register. |
| Marriage licenses and recorded marriage copies | Wasco County County Clerk | Certified copies cannot be sent by email. |
| Arrest reports or sheriff records | Wasco County Sheriff's Records Division | Written request is required. |
| Current local custody | NORCOR Adults in Custody or 541-298-1576 | NORCOR is regional, not Wasco-only. |
| State custody or supervision | VISOR or Oregon DOC Offender Search | Certified offender records require an official records request. |

Older records may appear in Oregon State Archives inventories, courthouse storage, vault material, basement archives, or historic indexes rather than the current online portal.

- Family records: divorce, custody, support, parenting plans, protective orders, and related court filings.

The Wasco Circuit Court records page publishes court copy fees and record request links.
Use the court fee page when the needed record is a court file rather than a County Clerk recording.
Wasco County Court Records Law
Oregon public access starts with state public-records law, but court records also follow court-specific statutes and confidentiality rules. ORS 192.314 gives every person the right to inspect public records of a public body unless an exemption applies. ORS 7.020 describes the court register of actions, suits, proceedings, filings, orders, and judgments. OJD warns that the free portal is not that official register.
Key Statutes:
ORS 192.324 lets public bodies charge request costs and require payment before copies are produced.
ORS 137.225 governs set-aside records, often called expungement in Oregon.
ORS 419A.255 limits juvenile court record access for most public users.
OJD public records request guidance explains courthouse terminals, clerk-counter inspection, and written requests.
That route matters when a Wasco County record must be inspected or copied through the court instead of viewed in a limited online result.
Wasco County Court Record Fees
Wasco Circuit Court requires payment in full before processing copy requests. Paper copies apply to mailed or in-person pickup requests. Electronic fees apply to emailed, CD, or other media delivery. The County Clerk has a different fee schedule for recorded land documents and marriage-license copies, so match the fee to the office that holds the record.
| Item | Fee or Note |
|---|---|
| Paper copy per case request | $3.00 plus per-page charge |
| Paper copy per page | $0.25 |
| Certified paper copy | $5.00 plus per-page charge |
| Electronic document emailed | $3.00 per case request |
| Electronic certified copy | $5.00 per document request |
| FTR electronic recording | $10.00 per request |
Closure dates matter for copy processing, counter visits, payment posting, and hearing confirmation, so check Oregon court closures before relying on same-day service.
Restricted Wasco County Records
Some Wasco County court records are public only in part or are not public at all. Juvenile hearings may be open, but much file information is confidential. Represented parties should go through counsel, and unrepresented parties may need a written or in-person request with photo ID. Nonparties receive only limited information. Adoption files are confidential, with access governed by OJD procedures and, for many people, a court order.
Mental health matters, VAWA-protected cases, sealed files, set-aside criminal records, and records with protected personal identifiers may be withheld or redacted. A set-aside under ORS 137.225 can seal eligible arrests or convictions from ordinary public access, but eligibility depends on the case and offense. Court staff cannot choose forms or give legal advice.
Note: If a public portal omits a case, the reason may be law, policy, sealing, or case type rather than a missing filing.
Wasco County Criminal Records
Criminal case records begin after law enforcement submits reports and the Wasco County District Attorney decides whether prosecution is required. District Attorney Matthew Ellis and deputy district attorneys evaluate investigative reports, present evidence to the grand jury when needed, and represent the State of Oregon in Wasco County Circuit Court. A court criminal record can show filed charges, arraignment, pleas, motions, hearings, verdict or plea, disposition, sentence, fines, restitution, probation terms, and set-aside status.
Custody records are separate. Wasco County uses NORCOR, a regional adult and juvenile detention complex serving Wasco, Hood River, Sherman, and Gilliam counties. Current custody can be checked through NORCOR or by phone. State custody and supervision can be checked through VISOR or Oregon DOC Offender Search.
Wasco County Sheriff's Office lists Sheriff Lane Magill, office hours, services, and records contact routes.
Sheriff records requests are written requests, while filed criminal charges are tracked through the Circuit Court case record.
Wasco County Court Dockets
A docket is a schedule or event list. A register of actions is the official chronological record of filings and court actions. The free calendar portal can help locate hearing dates, but the research capture noted a maintenance notice during inspection. That means a Wasco County hearing should be confirmed through OJD records, the Wasco Circuit Court counter, OJCIN, or the court phone line when timing is critical.
OJD Circuit and Tax Court Calendars is the calendar portal identified in the research.
Calendar access is useful, but the official case register and the court office remain the better source for full case event history.
Wasco County Marriage Probate Records
Marriage licenses are issued by the Wasco County Clerk. Applicants complete the online application, then call the Clerk's Office for an appointment to finish the process, show proof of identity, and pay. A Wasco County license can be used anywhere in Oregon after the waiting period and is valid for 60 days once effective. Marriage records from 1974 forward can be searched through the Digital Research Room, while earlier or uncertain records use the inquiry form, office call, or in-person route.
Divorce and probate are Circuit Court records. Divorce certificates are separate vital records from Oregon Health Authority. Probate in Wasco County is handled by the Probate Division of the Circuit Court, with a long historic record inventory starting in 1854 and electronic OECI probate records since Wasco joined OECI in 2015.

Wasco County OJCIN Access
OJCIN Online is the paid subscription route for Oregon eCourt Case Information and appellate case management access. It covers case information from all 36 Oregon circuit courts plus Tax and Appellate courts, including civil, small claims, domestic, tax, misdemeanor, and felony cases when not confidential. OJCIN information is near real time, but OJD still says the official record is at the court site where the case was filed.
OJCIN Online is the subscription page for register-of-actions and judgment record access.
OJCIN is often the next step when the free Wasco County case search result is too thin for research or legal work.
Wasco County Court History
Wasco County was created in 1854 and named for the Wascopam Indian Tribe. At creation it was the largest county ever formed in the United States, stretching from the Cascades to the Rocky Mountains and from California to Washington. Seventeen later eastern Oregon counties were formed from that original territory. The Dalles became the county seat at creation and remains the seat today.
The current courthouse was built in 1914. The Oregon Secretary of State inventory shows deep court-record continuity, including county journals from 1854, circuit court dockets from the 1850s and 1860s, probate files beginning in 1854, divorce case files for 1859 through 1916, criminal dockets, jail registers, and a prisoner description register with photographs from 1901 through 1953.
OJD Find a Case or Court Record is the statewide starting page for modern court record access.
Historic Wasco County records may require the archive inventory, while current cases usually start with OJD and the Circuit Court records office.
